DEEP ROOTS MASSAGE THERAPY
A calming, spa-like massage clinic in Winnipeg’s Bridgwater neighbourhood.

We worked with Deep Roots Massage Therapy as they developed their new location. The goal was to design a space that felt more spa-like than clinical, maximizing a calm and relaxed atmosphere for their patients.
In order to create a calming environment, lighting played a major role in the design of this space. Lighting levels shifted from light and bright in the reception area, all the way to soft and glowing in the treatment rooms.
The corridor leading to the treatment rooms is dimly lit and features custom lighting along the floor which spills out in a captivating pattern as you walk down the hall. The massage rooms include a cove lighting detail to allow a soft glow into the room.
Treatment rooms were designed with ample storage to house the many functional needs of the massage therapists.
We also allowed for additional space in one of the treatment rooms to create a multipurpose area for community events, couples massages, or classes.
The main lounge includes a custom banquette, which we designed with specialty legs inspired by soft, feminine curves. Additional lounge details include gentle lighting and a painted ceiling with a pearlized finish, as well as wall sconces with natural stone and brass to further embody the spa-inspired story.
For emphasis upon first entering the space, creative detailing of the Deep Roots’ logo was installed using a metal rod on the bulkhead which trailed down to the floor showcasing the letters of the logo. This also creates a shadow detail of the logo onto the wall behind, for a simple but impactful first glimpse when you enter the clinic.
Since we were working with a high ceiling which can sometimes feel cold, we wanted to create a more intimate feeling in the reception area. We added a wood panelled bulkhead to provide warmth and continuation of the wood tones from the lounge and reception area.
In the end, we took a blank space and – through unique design and space planning – transformed it into a refined space that provides a calming massage experience for all patients who visit Deep Roots.
