LITTLE BROWN JUG

A brewery and taproom located in the historic 336 William Avenue in Winnipeg.

We had the incredible experience of working to refurbish and renovate a derelict heritage building in Winnipeg’s Exchange District. Little Brown Jug hit the Winnipeg craft beer scene and exploded in popularity in 2015, and founder Kevin Selch wanted to bring his vision to life in a unique way.

The current Little Brown Jug brewery is situated in what used to be the old livery stables for City Hall, then the home to the Red River Motor Coach Lines in the 1920s, followed by a wallpaper store, and eventually a print shop.

Inspired by founder, Kevin’s mandate, "Everything old will be old, everything new will be new", we rose to the challenge by creating an environment that did just that.

In partnership with Prairie Architect, we repurposed the old 100-year-old Douglas Fir boards found hanging between the existing steel trusses into the counter and benches in the seating area and then expanded the view into the brewery space (and of course back onto the street) by renewing the 64-foot span of storefront windows.

By pushing some boundaries and adding a large dose of creativity, this design-build project is another reason why Winnipeg is continually becoming a destination and an incredible place to live. Such a simple concept; just create an inviting space that connects the community, neighbours and the Red River and then douse it with great craft beer.

What could be better?

We’re proud to have received the grand prize at the 2018 Commerce Design Awards for the design of this space and we’re thrilled to continue our work with Little Brown Jug as we design their new and expanded office space.
